Korean UMC in Albuquerque breaks ground for first building
 Korean American Methodists in Albuquerque-who have worshiped for more than 20 years in space rented from other United Methodist churches, including St. Paul's and Trinity-broke ground for their first building on Sunday, June 9.
The Korean UMC church site is located on Tyler Road NE, just off Osuna and Edith.
Construction is expected to begin immediately. Funding has been secured, and a building permit has been issued.
 "Everybody was so excited," said the Rev. James Large, Director of Mission and Administration for the New Mexico Conference, who was among those participating in the ground-breaking service.  "It was like watching one  of your kids move into the first home.
 "Their prayer is that they'll be able to worship in their own building by Christmas." 
AMONG THOSE, sharing in the joy of the ground breaking was the Rev. Jong-Nam Song, "taking action" with a shovel, center front, in the upper picture.
OTHER PARTICIPANTS-shown left to right in the foreground of the lower photo- included the Rev. Terry Anderson, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Albuquerque, representing the Albuquerque District; the Rev. James Large, representing the New Mexico Conference; Sterling Mathias of Grace, Inc.; and Mr. Kyong Lee, Chairman of the building committee of Korean United Methodist Church in Albuquerque.
